USATT Position Regarding ITTF Gluing Decision
July 1, 2007

USATT supports the ITTF decision on GLUES CONTAINING VOLATILE COMPOUNDS.

ANY PLAYER USING SUCH GLUES WILL BE DOING SO AT HIS/HER OWN HEALTH RISK. THE ITTF, USATT, TOURNAMENT DIRECTORS, AND CLUBS WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY CONSEQUENCES THOSE USING VC GLUES OR TO OTHERS.

USATT does not recommend any use of glue that has harmful contents. Pursuant to ITTF rules, players will not be penalized for use of such glue until September 1st, 2008. On that date, ITTF will implement a new zero tolerance racket testing program and protocol, using the "e-nez" and RAE instruments to ensure that all rackets used by players are VC-free. For more details, please read the ITTF statement regarding glue.

During the transition time until the new rule becomes effective, clubs and tournament organizers should continue to protect competitors and fans by providing a well ventilated area for gluing.
